class=\"fontstyle0\">Trois ans apr\u00e8s la sortie de son premier album, <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">Funky Princess<\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">, la saxophoniste t\u00e9nor Chantal De Villiers propose un nouvel album qui prend une toute autre direction. La musicienne d\u00e9laisse son jazz charg\u00e9 et \u00e9nergique pour se concentrer sur un c\u00f4t\u00e9 plus sentimental et plus m\u00e9lancolique, mais aussi plus minimaliste : \u00c0 travers le temps\u2026 est en fait des rencontres entre Chantal De Villiers et trois pianiste hors pair qui apportent chacun leur couleur. Il est question ici de Fran\u00e7ois Bourassa, de Taurey Butler et du paternel, Burt De Villiers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">L\u2019album de 9 pistes d\u00e9marre avec les compositions de la musicienne. <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">Romance sur la rive <\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">(avec Bourassa) est particuli\u00e8rement belle et agr\u00e9able \u00e0 \u00e9couter, mettant bien en valeur la complicit\u00e9 des deux instruments. <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">Once Again Dad <\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">y va cette fois avec cette proximit\u00e9 p\u00e8re fille, mais \u00e9tire l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus la sauce malgr\u00e9 les bonnes id\u00e9es, comme en t\u00e9moigne la dur\u00e9e de 7min26.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Les pi\u00e8ces suivantes sont de diverses origines : <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">Dear Old Stockholm <\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">vient de la tradition, alors que d\u2019autres, comme <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">I Loves You Porgy<\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">, sont simplement rest\u00e9s comme de grands standards de jazz. On appr\u00e9cie grandement <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle2\">Sunny <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">(Bobby Hebb) et <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">My One and Only Love <\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">(Guy Wood), interpr\u00e9t\u00e9es avec soin par Taurey Butler au piano. Notons aussi une derni\u00e8re compo originale, cette fois sign\u00e9e Burt De Villiers : <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">Samba de Do\u00e7ura<\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">, o\u00f9 il joue \u00e9galement le piano.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Au total, chaque pianiste est invit\u00e9 sur trois pistes, apportant bien s\u00fbr leur couleur et leur bagage \u00e0 la saxophoniste qui adapte tr\u00e8s bien son <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">jeu d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce \u00e0 l\u2019autre. Celle qu\u2019on surnomme la <em>Funky Princess<\/em> se d\u00e9fend tr\u00e8s bien dans les pi\u00e8ces plus lentes et \u00e9motives, mais on sent aussi un plaisir de retourner aux morceaux un peu plus \u00e9nergiques. Le principal b\u00e9mol quant au sax est au niveau de la prise de son : en \u00e9coutant bien il est tr\u00e8s facile d\u2019entendre tous les petits bruits entourant le saxophone. Il nous semble que ces sons ne sont pas si \u00e9vidents dans la plupart des enregistrements jazz, mais on devine que le fait qu\u2019il n\u2019y ait qu\u2019un piano pour accompagner Chantal De Villiers peut avoir rendu difficile de cacher ces petits bruits qui font finalement partie de l\u2019instrument.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Somme toute, l\u2019album <\/span><em><span class=\"fontstyle2\">\u00c0 travers le temps\u2026 <\/span><\/em><span class=\"fontstyle0\">marque par la grande versatilit\u00e9 de la saxophoniste, mais aussi par sa belle sensibilit\u00e9. Elle montre ici qu\u2019elle se d\u00e9fend aussi bien en formule intime qu\u2019en <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle2\">full band<\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">, et qu\u2019elle peut tisser de tr\u00e8s beaux liens de complicit\u00e9 avec diff\u00e9rents musiciens.
